Simon Gerrans takes on his 11th Tour De France

Riding in his 11th Tour de France, Simon Gerrans (Gerro) is no stranger to pressure in a peloton. Once again, the 36-year-old from Mansfield is delivering great results in amongst the elite performers in Cycling's ultimate race.

2015 was a tough year for Gerrans. After combating injury from multiple falls and therefore facing a difficult start to the European tour, Gerrans faced an uphill battle with a challenging tour itinerary, but managed to finish the 2015-2016 summer calendar with a great Tour Down Under result, securing his fourth win. Along with the barrage of physical challenges that he’s faced over the years, Gerro now also wears the added pressure of being one of Australia’s best riders sitting heavily on his shoulders.

However, in what’s been a triumphant comeback, Gerrans has not only secured a solid place within the top ranks at this years Tour de France, a big contender for multiple stages, he has also found a spot on the Australian Olympic cycling team for the third time (previously at Beijing 2008 and London 2012).

The sheer physical strength and unwavering mental stamina that Gerro has showcased has allowed for success to follow the Victorian on his 2016 endeavours, and here at Caramel, we couldn’t be happier for him. It’s going to be a tough two months ahead, but we’re with him all the way – Good Luck Mate!
